In Search of America on the Biggest Cruise Ship Ever
Writer Gary Shteyngart set sail on the inaugural voyage of the biggest cruise ship ever built-the Icon of the Seas-in search of the "real" America. (And maybe to throw a great suite party along the way.) What he found instead, like many a great novelist before him, was a far more isolating experience. Shteyngart recounts his "seven agonizing nights" aboard a giant floating mall full of memorable characters, bad entertainment, even worse food-and the ever-present desire to keep up.

I understand your editor and his position in this world that this was a very, very difficult week for the president and university presidents. But I have a feeling it was a difficult week for young students sleeping on the cold ground or concrete being pepper sprayed by police being told they would be expelled from school, lose their healthcare, and possibly their future plans for a cause they believe in so much that they are willing to lay down their lives for it . But I’m sure the steak was tough at the White House and a Rolaids was needed for at least one university president . I am Glad I’m not you, Mr. Goldberg, or those that are like you.

What's the point of it all ? That is the question that everybody asks himself at least once in his lifetime. why ? Why ? But what is fascinating, although we all know that no one can give us a satisfactory answer, is that the power of this question in the human brain has transformed into an absolutely incredible creative energy. As if by constantly asking it, humans were in the process of transforming reality itself.

I am a Muslim, and I sympathize with these Yazidi girls. I acknowledge how horrible situations these girls have faced. and it should not have happened to anyone from any religion. Everybody has the right to live. BUT, I would not apologize for actions committed by ISIS as I do not consider them Muslims. They are kharjis. because what they are doing is against the teachings of Islam and the Quran and I am sure 99% of the Muslim population in the world denounces them. Also, I have seen the comment section and noticed some people needed this video only to spew their Islamophobic venom, I challenge you to study Islam and bring me anything that approves the actions of ISIS. Moreover, ISIS is an American and Mossad proxy. isn't it strange that ISIS originated from a region a few kilometers away from Isra'el, they have managed to carry out terrorist attacks on places thousands of miles away from that place, but never taken a single step towards Isra'el? And lastly, what you call Islamic terrorism, did it exist 30-40 years ago, did it exist during the Cold War? No, because the US had focused only on Soviet Russia. After the disintegration of the Soviets, America needed a new enemy, so it was Islam and America started creating proxies in Muslim countries. The US would never want a stabilized Middle East, because if there are no proxies and Syria or Iraq, these countries would have turned their attention to Isra'el. So it is all to protect America's illegitimate child, Isra'el. My message to Yazidis, I do feel sorry for you and I respect you, but I will not apologize for the actions committed by US proxies. And to Islamophobes, I don't give a damn about what you think. Keep Hating.....................

At 77 he still sounded like an idealistic 21 year old. "There's no point in fearing death." 20 years later when death was imminent, a distinguished professor from a celebrated university suddenly wondered what the point of it all was. I guess when you're freer in your own body and are writing books, you can delude yourself with the inherent meaning of life, and have a cavalier attitude about death. Suddenly just as pedestrian as the rest of us, who don't need infirmity or advanced years to see harsh truths. I don't mean to be harsh on Mr. Fingarette, personally, just an observation.

Also to clarify, Muslims were living in peace, harmony and safety with Yazids before USA and coalition invaded, destroyed and destabilised Iraq, which led Iraq to ungovernable state and emboldened criminals to do as they please.

Warning: Trump is trying to do this in a second term - only worse this time. His last term there were some guardrails set up so he couldn’t enact his plan precisely, but this term there will be none of those guardrails in place. He’s realized that he doesn’t want to hire anyone who will talk him out of all the cruel things he wants to do to migrants, women, the LGBTQ+ population, people who are homeless, people who suffer from mental illness, and anyone else who doesn’t fully support him vision for the country. He wants to allow states to monitor women’s pregnancies, he wants to force every law enforcement agency to go door-to-door to search for immigrants and then house them in (concentration) camps before “deporting” them. Donald Trump is a DANGEROUS PERSON. Black, white, Hispanic, Democrat, Republican, Gay, Straight, and everyone in between - if you care about your freedom and democracy, you will NOT VOTE FOR HIM. This election isn’t about voting for your party this time; it’s about voting to keep freedom or give it away. We can’t let the United States fall into dictatorship. There MUST be checks and balances in place to quell the power that the president has. The founders of our country warned us about this. They put very specific laws in place to protect us and now Donald Trump and the MAGA Republican Party are doing everything they can to break down those laws so Trump can be King. Do NOT LET HIM.

I am a victim os narcissistic abuse, and the abuser is my own father. I have been hit multiple times, he hit me with a wooden board when i was 7 because i got mad at myself for forgetting how to write a letter "n". I was slammed against the wall, with my head, he was grabbing me by my hair and shaking my head, riping my hair out, he almost ripped my ears out when i was 10. After i reported the abuse he didn't abuse neither me or my siblings physically, but i have endured so much mental abuse and attempts to manipulate me and everyone around i got a lot of problems with my health. The police does not help, and the institutions that clamed they will help only retraumatized me further and it will continue for few long years. I don't know if it was worth it, bc the good side is that my siblings won't be abused the way i was, but it costs you a lot, and i believe that in many cases reporting is simply not worth anythig an it will provide further damage. The police does not help, it only makes things worse. People who abuse thaeir loved ones, children are the worst kind of people. They are just pitiful little boys who know how disgusting they are and make people's lives a nightmare just to feel better about themsevles. They can't control their anger lite a 3 year olds, so they will destory everything around. I detest the likes of them and they don't deserve any forgiveness.

I'm only 23 but a few years ago a major panic attack made me begin to question everything about life. I can't wake up without contemplating the fact that I exist and that one day I could just simply not exist anymore. I'm christian and my beliefs were always firm but I've questioned biology, religion, philosophy, and everything else many times over and still do on a regular basis. Something I've learned that helps me to cope is understanding the fact that we exist. For an infinite amount of time, we didn't exist. But now somehow here we are, an experience of existence, adding value to a colorless and flavorless universe, trying to come up with an answer for ourselves. Smell doesn't exist; it's something our brain came up with for our personal experience. Neither do colors, feelings, or love. If these things came about through evolution as a means of survival, then why are they anything more? Why is the earth, the trees, the flowers, the sunset over an ocean breathtakingly beautiful? The truth is, it shouldn't be, unless there's something extra involved that was programmed into our personal experience -- a special synchronization with all of our surroundings which is evident. We should have no fear of death, unless our experience was deliberately enhanced to such an extent. For me, science points to God. Whether you want to view God as an entity, or a self-organizing force that's beyond our comprehension, that's up to you. To demonstrate, if we are to believe that the universe appeared by chance in a place where time and space don't exist, then considering our universe is present, we also have to accept that anything can happen -- and that every possibility has occurred. If the sudden spontaneous creation of even one thing (our universe) is possible, then anything should be possible. This is a paradox. Let me try to break it down. If time doesn't exist outside of the universe, and yet this "place" gave birth to our universe, then anything should be possible at this "place" and everything should be happening here in an indefinite cycle. The end of our universe should've already happened, because there's no concept of time, and there should be infinites of exotic objects created and events happening all at once for all eternity, clashing with our universe from the outside. You can't have chaos and order at the same time. How is nothing able to create both time and space? And why should there only be one finely tuned universe? But if there are multiple universes, then this implies a form of order in a place of complete chaos where not even time exists. This implies that each universe has similar information distributed to it from...nothing? No. Either nothing should happen, or anything and everything should happen for all of eternity. And everything else is a circular theory. Nothing should prevent a whale from materializing outside of your house. The proposed idea is that a sweeping sine wave created trillions of universes just like ours with slightly altered variables, and our universe turned out to be just right -- particularly suitable for life. But that's a nonsense explanation for our universe and it's not even a good multiverse theory. It still begs the question, where did any information come from, and how could it be distributed to each universe? If you really go to the root of all origin, it's highly indicative that self-organization existed even before the big bang. Deliberate intention was involved, all the way from the universe's birth down to our personal experience. That's just my take.
